Short answer: To convert PNG to JPG, drop your images above, choose JPG and click Convert. JPG files are usually much smaller, but transparent areas become white. Your files stay on your device the whole time.

A PNG screenshot or export can be several megabytes, which is awkward when an email limit or an upload form is waiting. Converting a PNG to JPG often cuts the file size dramatically, especially for photographs. This page does it inside your browser, with a quality slider and a choice of background color for transparent areas, and none of your pictures ever leave your device.

Why do PNG files get so big?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is perfect for sharp lines and text but wasteful for photographs, where tiny differences between neighbouring pixels do not matter to the eye. JPG throws away detail you are unlikely to notice, so a photo that takes a few megabytes as PNG can shrink to a few hundred kilobytes. The results list shows the exact saving for every file, so you can judge the trade yourself.

When is JPG a good idea, and when is it not?

Use JPG for photographs, product shots, social media posts and anything where file size matters more than perfect edges. Avoid it for screenshots full of small text, line drawings and logos, because JPG can leave faint smudges around sharp edges. Also avoid it for pictures that need transparency. If your picture is a logo or interface capture, WebP or the original PNG is usually the safer choice.

Transparent areas and background color

JPG cannot be see-through. Any transparent part of your PNG must be filled, and the default fill is white. The page warns you about this before you convert. Open Advanced options to pick another color, for example black for a picture that will sit on a dark slide. Raise the quality slider if you notice blur, lower it to squeeze the file further, and use the resize options to cut dimensions as well.

Email and upload limits

Many email services and web forms cap attachments at a few megabytes. A folder of PNG screenshots can pass that limit with only a few files. Converting them to JPG at the default quality commonly gets the total comfortably below it, and the results list tells you how much each file shrank. If you still need more room, set a width of 1600 pixels in Advanced options. Keep the PNG originals if you may need crisp text later, because a JPG made from them cannot be turned back into the exact original.

Questions people ask

Will my PNG lose quality as a JPG?

Slightly. JPG discards fine detail. At the default quality of 85, photos look the same to most people, but sharp text can show faint smudges.

What happens to a transparent background?

It becomes white unless you choose another color in Advanced options.

Can I convert many PNGs at once?

Yes. Drop many files at once and download them together as a ZIP. The page tells you how many your device can handle in one go.

Why does my screenshot look blurry around the text after converting?

JPG is designed for photos and softens sharp edges, which shows most on text. For screenshots that must stay crisp, use WebP or keep PNG, or raise the quality setting to 90 or more.

Why did a white edge appear around my logo?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background colour, white by default. Choose a background that matches where the logo will be placed in Advanced options.
