Short answer: To convert HEIC to PNG, drop your iPhone photos above, choose PNG and click Convert. PNG is lossless, so it suits editing, but the files are much larger than HEIC or JPG. Nothing is uploaded.

Most people convert HEIC to JPG, but sometimes PNG is the better target: you plan to edit the picture in design software, drop it into a layered document or keep a lossless working copy. This page decodes HEIC in your browser and saves it as PNG, with no upload, so the photos in your camera roll stay on your device.

When does PNG make more sense than JPG?

Pick PNG if you will retouch the photo, combine it with other graphics or save it several times, because PNG does not lose detail on each save. It is also a good working format for screenshots you took on the phone and later saved in HEIC. For simply sharing a photo with a friend, JPG is much smaller and equally fine.

Expect big files

HEIC is designed to be compact, and PNG is not. A photo that takes a couple of megabytes in HEIC can become many times larger as PNG. That is normal, since PNG stores every pixel with no loss. A batch is downloaded as one ZIP. If space matters more than perfect pixels, choose JPG or WebP.

What is not carried over?

The PNG is one still picture. Live Photo motion and portrait depth data from the iPhone are not included, and the location and camera details are removed. Orientation follows how the photo was taken, so a portrait photo stays upright. If a photo seems to be missing something after conversion, compare it with the original on your phone, which keeps all of the extra data.

When does lossless really help?

Choose PNG for photos when you will edit them heavily, for example repairing a damaged picture, removing objects, or combining several shots into one. Every time a JPG is saved, it loses a little more detail, while a PNG stays the same. For a quick share, use JPG instead. If you are unsure, convert one photo to both formats and compare the sizes in the results list. The PNG is usually many times larger, so plan your storage before you convert a whole holiday album.

Questions people ask

Why is my PNG so much larger than the HEIC?

HEIC compresses strongly, while PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so photos become many times larger.

Is the location removed from my photos?

Yes. Location and camera details are not copied into the converted file.

Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

Yes. Drop many photos at once and download the PNGs together as a ZIP. The page tells you how many your device can handle in one go.

Why would anyone choose PNG over JPG for a photo?

When you plan to edit the photo many times. PNG never loses detail on saving, so repeated edits do not slowly degrade the picture. For sharing, JPG is the better choice.

Does the PNG keep the iPhone's wider colours?

The PNG is saved in standard 8-bit colour, which is what nearly all screens and websites use. For most photos the difference is not visible.
